Random Organization Inspiration
Hey, y'all! - It's Dalton from House Marketing jumping on the blog. Within the past year, I have spent months slowly but surely renovating my childhood home - from ripping out all of the carpets in the house and lying down hardwoods, painting every wall and baseboard, retiling the bathroom, installing new light fixtures and appliances, and so forth. While all of these cosmetic additions elevated my space, nothing made it feel more like a home than taking my time and organizing each area to perfection. I have decided to compile a list of random things that I did to elevate specific areas in my home and make my daily life and mental stability better.
I want to preface this list by stating that I am all about aesthetics. While these can be subjective based on your taste, I feel that these are basic things anyone can add to their home to make everything feel and look a bit more tidier.
1. Decant everything in your kitchen cabinets - and yes, I am serious. Those who don't know what this means, take all of your spices and other things like flour and sugar and place them in marked jars and or containers of your liking. I found some helpful organization jars on Amazon. After placing each provision in their new home, I slapped a handy label on each item and faced them outwards. The fact that I know exactly where my cinnamon is for my oatmeal each morning helps me sleep better at night.
2. Do you happen to have way too many photos of you and your friends, maybe your significant other, either lying around your house in dusty frames or in a box where nobody can see them? I had many photos and posters of things all around my house in drawers and closets, galore. I chose to declutter all of those spaces by slapping them in frames I picked up at garage sales and Good Will and made a gallery wall for the ages. Not only does it spark a conversation, but it makes me feel like I did something productive every time I look at it, which is a plus [HA]!
3. Invest in multifunctional furniture with tons of storage, always. When I was in the market for a table for my record player, I had thought about getting something more up-to-date that was strictly for my records. Not a good decision on my part, but I ended up opting for an entire dining sideboard table, which had been used for shelving multiples sets of dinnerware. Not only did I score an impeccable mid-century modern piece, but I could then store everything from my records, of course, to shoes, dishes, photo albums, and so much more. It has become a landfill of sorts, but on the outside, it looks fantastic.
4. Utilize your bookshelves [if you have them] for more than housing your favorite novels. In my living room, there was a vast blank space along one wall that was annoying me. After much deliberation, I opted for two massive bookcases. Of course, they hold copies of my favorite books, but it is also a space to house my unofficial 'bar,' as well as random art pieces I've collected over the past few years. I also added cool wooden storage boxes along the bottom shelf to have more storage.
5. My last tip is to have a specific location for your everyday shoes, keys and wallets, and everything else you utilize daily. I have spent more time than I'd admit in my life scouring my house for my car keys as well as other random things. By adding a simple table or even a small shelf, anything, where you can toss the stuff you need in an instant when heading out the door, can make your days a little bit easier.
